Local Sports For Friday December 14

Fort Frances Lakers failed to gain ground on second-place Dryden, losing in a shootout to the Dogs last night in Dryden 4-3.

The Lakers had led 3-1 at one point in the game on goals from Davis Smith, Merritt Rysavy and Alex Bruess.

The point earned in the loss moved the Lakers into a tied for third with Thunder Bay who won its game against Duluth on Wednesday.



A qualifying event for women's curling team in northern Ontario towards the provincial championship goes today in Atikokan.
Five teams are competing, none from the Rainy River district.

First draw goes this after at 1:30 p.m. Atikokan time at the Little Falls Curling Club.

Krista McCarville of the Fort William Curling Club will face Liane Fossum of the Port Arthur Club.

Kendra Lily of North Bay is up against Sudbury's Tracy Horgan foursome.
