Local Sports For Monday December 3

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team earned a silver medal at a tournament in Brandon, losing 1-0 to Oak Park in yesterday's final.

The Muskies topped their pool, then beat John Taylor 3-2 and Sturgeon Heights 4-3 Saturday to reach the final.



Fort Frances Lakers took over sole possession of 4th in the SIJHL with a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Hoyt Lakes Saturday.

Alex Bruess, Mason Meyer and Jordan Christianson provided the scoring.

Tanner Hamilton recorded his first-ever league shutout.



Fort Frances Canadians AA pee wee team lost in overtime to the Wesfort Maroons 2-1 in the final of a Thunder Bay tournament.

The winning goal coming on a penalty shot.

Nick Hahkala had the goal for the Canadians who lost just once in round robin in reaching the final.



Atom hockey teams also in tournament play in Thunder Bay.

Fort Frances Canadians A team went 1-1-1 in its games.

On the A signed, the Gillon's Sharks won twice and lost twice while MacDonald GM was winless in its four games.



In girls hockey, Fort Frances Lakewood Tire Eagles lost 9-1 in the pee-wee final of a tournament in Kenora to the host Lake of the Woods Chaos.

The Emo Express lost out in the novice consolation final to Lake of the Woods.

Kaemingh Esso was also involved in the pee-wee division, winning three games and losing twice.




International Falls Broncos boys hockey team lost 5-1 to Little Falls Saturday.

Derek White scoring the lone marker for the Broncos.



Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams split their weekend matches.

The men won 83-75 Friday over Ridgewater, but lost 82-63 to Minnesota West Saturday.

The women won 78-58 over Ridgewater, losing 68-56 to Minn. West.



Thirteen members of the Sunset Country Squash Club reached the finals or consolation finals of a tournament in Thunder Bay including Davis Jackson who won the junior division.

Jason Kabel was runner up in the men's side.

Matt Johnson of the Atikokan Curling Club and Stratton's Jessica Haw have qualified for the Northern Ontario Curling Association's provincial junior championships next month in Kapaskasing.

Johnson' foursome beat Austin Smith of Keewatin in two straight games in a qualifying event played at the Emo Curling Club on the weekend.

Haw's rink needed three games to dispatch Hannah Bazinet of Atikokan.



Four members of the Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim Team scored a number of personal bests at a swim meet in Winnipeg on the weekend.

12 year old Josh Cousineau finished 4th in the 100 metre Individual medley, along with three other top ten finishes.

14 year old Regan Danylchuk was 6th in the 50 metre freestyle and 7th in the 100 metre free.

Lyndsi Jo Wilson and Kaela Lowey also competed.
