Local Sports for Friday June 10

Steve Arpin will start his first NASCAR truck series race from the second row.

The Fort Frances native had the fourth-fastest time in qualifying for tonight's race at Texas Motorspeedway.

The race can be seen live on Speed-TV at 8 p-m Fort Frances time.



The Beef's Warriors have moved into first place in the Rainy River District Fastball League following an 8-5 win over Barwick

Elsewhere, Sight and Sound edged the Big Grassy Lightning 5-4

The Big Grassy Braves dropped the Stratton Eagles 15-4

Big Island got by Northwest Bay 12-10

And Rainy River blanked Manitou 5- nothing.



Mitch Cain had the hat-trick as Manitou Forest Products defeated the Rendezvous Voyaguers 5-2 in the men's division of the Borderland Soccer League.

and Jimmy Nussbaumer had his second straight two-goal night as Pharmasave blanked Emo 5-nil.

In women's action from Wednesday, Boston Pizza earned a win by default over Taggs Source for Sports.

A game between Al's Racquet Stringing and Rendez-Voyageurs girls was postponed.



In little league play in the Falls, Meyer's Sports blanked Wherley's 8-nothing.

Super One beat Dominos 12-2

In girls softball, TruStar outscored Border State Bank 21-13

Cine 5 defeated Mannco Trucking 16-12



Fort Frances High School handed out its hardware to its top athletes this past week.

Justin Anderson and Chelsea Hill were named athletes of the years.

Braedon Caul and Maryam Seid were rookies of the year.

And Jeff Gustafson and Sarah Roach won the awards for athletic and academic achievement.
