Local Sports for Wednesday June 8

Rob McGinnis belted his league leading fifth home run of the season as Beef's Warriors defeated Stratton 9-2.

The win vaults the Warriors past the Eagles into third in the Rainy River district Fastball League.

Elsewhere, Sight and Sound doubled up the Northwest Bay Chiefs 8-4

Barwick beat Big Island 7-2.

The Big Grassy Lightning defeated Manitou 11-2.

A game between the Braves and Rainy River was postponed.



Jimmy Nussbaumer scored twice as Pharmasave defeated Manitou Forest Product 3-1 in the Borderland Soccer League men's division.

Jake Esselink recorded the shutout as Emo blanked the Rendez-Vous Voyageurs 3-nil.



It appears there could be a third U.S. based team soon playing in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

League officials aren't providing many details, but confirm the team is eyeing the possibility of setting up operations in the Virginia-Hibbing, Minnesota area.

USA Hockey must still give its blessing.
