Local Sports for Friday October 21


Byron Katapaytuk scored four times to pace the Fort Frances Lakers to a 6-2 win over the Dryden Ice Dogs last night in Dryden.

It included a two goal outburst 13 seconds apart midway through the first frame.

Colton Spicer and Adam Wensley added the other goals while Type Ampe earned the win in net.





Fort Frances Muskies football team finished 5th overall in its division after blanking the St. John's Tigers 7-0 in its finale of the Winnipeg High School Football League.

Harley Mainville had the game's only touchdown.

Muskies will face St. Norbert next Thursday to open the playoffs.

The game will be played at Canad Inn Stadium, the home of the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.




The Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team opens its season with a tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Their first game is 2:15 p.m. against Kenora's Beaver Brae with opening ceremonies planned before the Muskies game against Portage La Praire at 6:45 p.m.




Fort Frances Muskies junior court teams are in action this weekend.

The junior girls basketball team hosts a tournament at the high school today and tomorrow.

The junior boys volleyball team is in tournament play in Dryden.





The Fort Frances Aquanants host a meet this weekend at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Close to 120 swimmers from across northwestern Ontario will participate.

The Aquanants are coming off a 21-win performance in Dryden last weekend.
