Local Sports for Friday October 28


Fort Frances Muskies have advanced to the semi-final of the Winnipeg High School Football League playoffs.

The Muskies defeated St. Norbert 15-8 in a game played at Canad-Inn Stadium in Winnipeg.

Their second round opponents have not been announced.




On the court the Fort Frances Muskies junior volleyball team beat Kenora's Beaver Brae in five sets.




Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team compete in their second tournament in as many weeks.

They're in Winnipeg and face Selkirk this morning.

Meantime the boys take to the ice for the first time in Dryden.

They open a tournament there with a game this morning against Beaver Brae.




Falls High School cross country runner Sydney Raboin has qualified for the State championships.

Raboin finished 5th at the Section 7A qualifier in Cloquet.

The girls team also qualified for the State team competition with a second place finish overall.

The boys were 7th.




In midget girls hockey in Fort Frances, the Pharmasave Wildcats beat the ACO Chargers 5-1.

Taylor Hazel,  Abby Perreault, Allison Brown, Maddy Weir and Elizabeth Henderson scored for the Cats.

Bridgette Jorgenson replied for the Chargers.




Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team opened a tournament in Winnipeg with a 5-0 win over Selkirk.

Hailey Clendenning and Shelby Tymkin each scored twice with Amber Jourdain getting the other.

Calie Clendenning got the win in net.

Muskies face Oak Park this afternoon.




Fort Frances Lakers are home tonight with a game against the Sioux Lookout Flyers.

It's the fourth meeting of the meeting season between these two teams with the Flyers hold a 2-1 series edge.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team face Northland to open the MCAC Region 13B tournament today in Thief River Falls

The Voyageurs have not beaten Northland in three games this season.
