Local Sports for Monday October 31


Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team captured a tournament in Dryden with a 7-1 win over Transcona in the final.

Chris Bobychinski had a hat trick with singles from Bradean Webb, Nick Jourdain, Nick Kaun and Aaron McDowell.

In round robin play, the Muskies lost to Kenora 2-1, but beat Dryden 6-2 and Transcona 7-1 to advance.



The Muskies girls team lost in the B-side final of a tournament in Winnipeg 2-1 to Sturgeon Heights.

Sara Milling got the Muskies only goal.

The team went 1-2 in round robin play before beating the Dakota Lancers in the B-side semi final on Saturday to advance.



Dane Morin and Byron Katapaytuk scored twice as the Fort Frances Lakers defeated Sioux Lookout 6-2 Saturday, avenging a 4-3 shoot out loss to the Flyers Friday.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team opened its season winning 2 of 3 games against Manitoba' Western Predators.

The Voyageurs won 2-1 Saturday morning before skating to a 1-1 draw that night.

Sunday, Kristen Penner scored in overtime to give the Voyageurs a 4-3 victory.



Noah Loveday scored in overtime while Cole Tymkim recorded a hat trick as the Boston Pizza PeeWee AA Canadians edged the visiting Dryden Paper Kings 4-3 yesterday.




In girls hockey from the weekend, the Rolling Lake Lightning blanked the Emo Penguins Friday 4- nothing in an atom division game

Meghan Bruyere scored two, Mackenna Watson, and Brenna Weir scored for the Lightning

And Saturday, the Skates and Blades bantams shutout the Nor-Fab Peewee Flames 2-0.




Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team was eliminated from the MCAC Region 13-B playoffs in a 3-set loss to Northland on Friday.



Fort Frances Muskies junior boys volleyball team finished 8th at a tournament in Winnipeg over the weekend.

The Muskies went 1 and 3 in pool play before losing in 3-set to MCBI in the playoffs.



Rainy Lake Owls captured a junior girls basketball tournament in Fort Frances by beating Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos 28-6 in the final.

The Owls were the only single 'A' division team in the tournament.

The Owls Skyler Arpin was the winner of the tournament's 3-point contest.
