Local Sports for Monday October 3


Christin Thompson of Fort Frances failed in a qualifying attempt towards joining the LPGA.

Thompson shot a 77 in her final round Friday to finish in a tie for 225th overall.

The top seventy advanced to the next round of qualifying.



Falls High School cross country teams finished well back of the field at event on the weekend.

The girls team placed 9th with Sydney Raboin having the best showing at 2th

The boys team was 20th led by Cade MacKay who was 76th.




Dan and Debbie Bird captured the 3rd annual walleye classic at Naicatchewenin First Nation on the weekend.

They're combined catch of 32. 49 pounds helped grap the 5-thousand dollar first prize money.

Dennis Barnard and Matt Plante finished second while Doug and Zach McBride were third.




Several area runners at the Twin Cities Marathon in St. Paul on the weekend.

Nicole Rogozinski was tops among a dozen Fort Frances women who competed in the 10 mile event.

Charlayne Bliss was the highest finisher in the 10 K among four other local women.




The Wisconsin Wilderness continue to be the SIJHL representative in the Canadian Junior Hockey League top 20.

The Wilderness, who took over top spot from the idle Fort Frances Lakers on the weekend, are 14th.




International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team finished 11th overall at a tournament in Virginia Saturday.

The Broncos defeated Mesabi East and Hill City but lost to Hermantown and Southridge.

They're in action tonight against Hibbing.

Meantime, the Rainy River Voyaguers women's volleyball team has a home game against Mesabi.
