Local Sports for Monday March 29

Two Fort Frances rinks have advanced to a provincial curling event after winning regional events in the Dominion Curling Club playdowns in Sioux Lookout.

Raymond Roy and his foursome finished first overall in the men's side while Kim Beaudry went undefeated on the women's side to earn berths to the provincials being held next month in Thunder Bay.


Lorne Jackson and his Fort Frances rink was eliminated Saturday evening from the Northern Ontario mixed curling playdown in Kenora.


Tirza Keffer's Fort Frances High School team was defeated in the quarter-finals Friday by Timiskaming at the provincial high school curling championship in Toronto.



Fort Frances Lakers were eliminated from the post-season Friday by Dryden.

A 3-1 win gave the Ice Dogs a 4-2 win in the best of seven series and will play the Fort William North Stars for the Salonen Cup beginning tomorrow in Thunder Bay.



Rainy River Community College's men's baseball team opened its inaugural season with a double header Saturday night at the Metrodome in Minneapolis against Western Technical College from LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

The Voyageurs dropped the opener 7-3, but rebounded for a 1-0 victory in the second.
