Local Sports for Thursday March 4

Fort Frances Lakers dropped the opening game of their playoff series with the K & A Wolverines - 5-3 in Thunder Bay last night.

The Wolverines opened with a 3-0 before the Lakers tied the game on three straight powerplay goals from Mike Jourdain, Jordan Carne and Cody Hasbargen.

A late goal in the second period proved to be the winner for the Wolverines.

Game two goes tonight in Thunder Bay.


Fort Frances Canadians Midget AA hockey team ended its season with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Grand Rapids Junior Gold.

Jeff Gustafson and Chris Bobczynski scored for the Canadians while James Wallin and Brennan Carroll shared netminding duties.


In Atom girls hockey last night, the Rolling Lake Lightning defeated Kaemingh Esso 3-1.

Annalise Hayes struck the net twice while Lauren Hamilton scored the other one for the Lightning.

Scoring for Esso was Emma Noga.


International Falls Broncos girls' basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the section 7AA championship with a 56-37 win over Greenway.

The Broncos will next play Two Harbours at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Saturday afternoon.


The Ontario Winter Games have opened in the Muskoka Area with a number of Rainy River district athletes competing.

Skip Isaac Keffer will lead teammates, Cody Heyens, Cody Ossachuk and Ian Grant in curling.

Annis Seid, Shawn Brady, Angel McCormack, Anika Alexander and Kaitlyn Degagne compete in Squash.
