Ben McClellan's goals 18 minutes into overtime game the Dryden Ice Dogs a 4-3 win to open their SIJHL semi-final series with the Fort Frances Lakers.

The Lakers held the three separate leads on two goals from Mike Jourdain and another from Justin Erhart, only to see the Dogs claw back each time.

Game two goes Friday in Dryden.


Lakehead University's men's basketball team heads to the national championship with a Fort Frances connection.

Evan Woodland is an assistant coach with the team that makes its first appearance at the national level in 33 years.

Woodland joined the ThunderWolves as a player in 2002, but an injury cut his playing career short.

He joined as a full-time assistant five years ago.
