Local Sports for Tuesday March 9

Tierza Keffer and her Fort Frances rink are headed to the Ontario high school curling championship.

Keffer won the northwestern Ontario girl's title this morning in Thunder Bay following a 6-2 win over Geraldton, leaving them as the only unbeaten rink.

The provincial curling championship takes place in Toronto beginning March 24.

Meantime Rainy River's girls team finished in a 3-way tie for third, but a tiebreaker left them placing fifth.

On the boys side, Rainy River tied for third with St. Ignatius, but a previous loss gave the Thunder Bay school bronze.



In girls hockey last night, the Norfab Flames peewee affiliate team beat the BDO Dunwoody bantam girls 6-2.

Jessica Coran, Amy Penner, Madison Weir, Amber Jourdain, Madyson Degagne and Myla Angus scored for the Flames.

BDO goals came from Katie Sinclair and Kassidy Ogden.


Steve Arpin is Fort Worth today for testing at Texas Motor Speedway.

Today's runs are to prepare drivers for an ARCA race next month.
