Local Sports for Friday June 18

More big run production from the Barwick Knight in the Rainy River District Fastball League last night.

The Knight thumped Manitou 31-1 - the seventh time they've reached double digits this season.

Kevin Gemmill with his seventh of the season and Mike Anderson hit home runs.

Elsewhere, Jesse Tom, Linden Indian and Tim Archie hit homeruns as the Big Grassy Braves doubled up on Sight and Sound 8-4.

Stratton beat Northwest Bay 12-6.

Games between Sabaskong and the Big Grassy Lightning and Rainy River and Big Island were postponed.



Twelve teams will gather for the second annual Rick Copenance Memorial Fastball tournament this weekend at Onigaming First Nation.

The winners get $18-hundred in cash.

Last year's champions, the Big Grassy Lightning, begin the tournament with a game against the Young Guns at 4 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., host Sabaskong plays Barwick, last year's winners of the B-side event.



In the Borderland Soccer League, Sara Kellar scored twice as Al's Racquet Stringing edged Taggs Source for Sports 4-3 in a women's division game.

Nicole Rogozinski and Katie McTavish also scored for Al's.

Danielle Payne, Stephanie Mattson and Blair Hartnel replied for Taggs.
