Local Sports for Wednesday June 23

A high scoring affair in the Rainy River District Fastball League last night.

Rainy River Royals needed 8 innings to edged Manitou 16-15.

Winning pitcher Matt Johnson helped his own caused by belting his first homer of the season.

Elsewhere, the Big Grassy Braves beat the Lightning 9-6 in nine innings - Jeff Morrison hitting a homer in a losing cause for the Lighting.

Sight & Sound beat Northwest Bay 9-7 while Barwick blanked Big Island 10-0.



In the Borderland Soccer League, Manitou Forest Products got goals from six different players in a 6-4 win over Emo in a men's division game.

Sarah Noonan, Mike Sande, Chris Sinclair, Mike Sonnasinh, Scott Bridgeman and Dustin Faragher scored for Manitou.

Joel Veldhuisen with a pair, Dan Kaputi and Nathan Bujold replied for Emo.

In women's play, Boston Pizza doubled Al's Raquet Stringing 4-2.

Laureen Peters had a pair for Boston Pizza with singles from Sarah Gould and Caitlin Hyatt.

Nicole Rogozinski had both goals for Al's

Tonight, the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs under-18 teams take to the field.

The boys team faces league leading Manitou Forest Products while the girls team is up against Boston Pizza.
