Local Sports for Wednesday June 16

Kevin Gemmell belted his fifth and six home runs of the season in leading the Barwick Knights to an 11-2 win over the Big Grassy Braves in Rainy River District Fastball League action last night.

The win keeps the Knights in the race for first with the Sabaskong Cubs who blanked the Big Island Huskies 13-0.

Don Copenace had a pair of homers for the Cubs in that game.

Elsewhere, it was the Big Grassy Lightning edging Sight and Sound 2-1 and Rainy River nipping Stratton 3-2.

Four goals from Winona Kavanaugh paced the La Place Rendez-vous Voyageurs under-18 girls team to an 8-0 shutout of Taggs Source for Sports in the Borderland Soccer League.

Courtney Roach scored three with Jessica Caul rounding out the scoring for the women's division leaders.
