Local Sports for Friday June 15


A couple of winning streaks for local teams have come to an end.

First in the Rainy River District Fastball League, the Big Grassy Braves had their 9-game win streak snapped with a 5-3 loss to Barwick.

Elsewhere, Rainy River defeated Manitou 18-3

Couchiching doubled up the Sabaskong Lakers 14-7

Stratton out scored Northwest Bay 18-9.

Two other games, Sabaskong Cubs-Beef Warriors and Big Island-Sight and Sound, were postponed.




Manitou Forest Product's suffered its first loss and gave up its first goals in seven games in the Borderland Soccer League, losing 2-1 to International Travel Services

In the other men's division game, Pharmasave and the La Place RendezVous Voyageurs played to a 1-1 draw.

Teams are being sought for a beach volleyball tournament planned for the Canada Day weekend.

It's limited to 12 teams for the four-on-four events at Pither's Point Park.

International Falls Broncos boys baseball team has honoured some of its players.

The team handed out awards and School Letters last night.

Christian Kittleson was named the MVP.

Ben Humbert picked up rookie of the year honours

Both Kittleson and Humbert, along with Gunnar Anderson were Arrowhead All Conference Team selections.


Players receiving School Letters in Baseball were:
Freshman: Kevin Kilbride, Jackson Vollum, Jack Mellstrom and Ben Humbert
Sophomore: Wyatt Ulrich
Juniors: Caleb Dahlin, Josh Potter and Gunnar Anderson
Seniors:  John Bartkowski and Christian Kittelson
