Local Sports for Wednesday May 30


Fort Frances Muskies will be on the hunt for soccer titles today.

They host the NORWOSSA championships with the boys team in the final because of its first place finish in the regular season.

The girls team needs to get by Dryden to challenge Kenora in the final.

Winners advance to the provincial championships.


Manitou Forest Products reported its third straight shutout win in the Borderland Soccer League, blanking Pharmasave 1-0.

Jon Sinclair scored the goal.

Manitou has outscored its opponents 13-0 in three games.

Garnett Cornell scored three times as the International Travel Services crushed the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs 8-0.



The Big Grassy Braves are now the only unbeaten team in the Rainy River District Fastball League.

The Braves defeated Beefs Warriours 6-1 for its fifth straight win.

Elsewhere, Northwest Bay upset previously unbeaten Rainy River 14-12.

Stratton won its first game of the year, 10-5 over Couchiching.

Barwick defeated Big Island 15-3

Sight & Sound got by the Sabaskong Lakers 5-3

And the Sabaskong Cubs beat Manitou 9-2




Fort Frances Muskies now have an opponent in the NORWOSSA boys soccer final.

Dryden beat Kenora 3-1 in a semi-final to advance.

The game will be played later this afternoon.

Meantime, the Muskies are playing Dryden for the right to play Kenora in girls final.

Both teams won their opening games last week.

Al's Raquet Stringing is to place the La Place RendezVous Voyageurs.



International Falls Broncos boys baseball team host Greenway to open the Section 7AA tournament.

The Borderland Racing Association is looking for help.
