Local Sports for Friday June 8


Fort Frances Muskies are winless following the opening day of play at the provincial boys AA soccer championship in North Bay.

Muskies were blanked 3-0 by Cardinal Carter of Leamington and 1-0 by St. Mary's.

They face Toronto area Prince Edward Collegiate this morning.



Rainy River Owls are winless after the first day of play at the single-A girls soccer championship in Elgin.

Owls lost 8-0 to Smithville and 4-1 to University of Toronto Schools.

They're on the field this morning against Acton



Manitou Forest Products ran its record to six straight shut out wins in the Borderland Soccer League with 3-0 win over Pharmasave

The league leading scorer Ahamadou Idrissou netted his 13th and 14th of the season.

In the other game, Colton Spicer had seven goals as International Travel Services trounced the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs 16-0.

Garnet Cornell and Nathan Jodoin each had hat tricks in the game.



In the Rainy River District Fastball League, Big Grassy Braves improved to 8 and oh with a 22-10 win over the Sabaskong Lakers.

Couchiching won its first of the season, 7-6 over Manitou.

Stratton edged Rainy River 3-2.

Big Island got by the Sabaskong Cubs 12-9.

Beef Warriors beat Barwick 3-1

Sight and Sound defeated Northwest Bay 10-8.



Fort Frances Muskies have been officially eliminated from playoff contention at the all-Ontario high school boys AA soccer championship in North Bay.

Muskies lost 2-1 to Toronto's Prince Edward Collegiate.

Muskies conclude the tournament this afternoon.




Rainy River Owls have earned their first point at the provincial single-A girls soccer championship in Elgin.

The Owls tied Acton 2-2.

Jaylene Anderson and Skylar Arpin scoring.

Rainy River, who are officially out of the playoff contention, plays its final round robin game this afternoon against Ottawa's Rideau.
