Local Sports for Tuesday May 15


Four members of the Rainy River Voyageurs women's softball team have been named MCAC all-stars.

Catalina Fafard and Marangeli Sanchez were named to the first-team.

Chelsea Poulton and Brittany Johnson earned second team berth.




Scott Cummine of Saskatchewan was the overall winner of the Strongman competition held in Fort Frances Saturday.

Cummine won three of six events and placed second in two others to edge last year's winner Luke Skaarup of Fort Frances by 1.5 points.

A total of 16 competitors took part.




Taylor Whitehead has won his first match at the national junior badminton championship in Moncton.

The Fort Frances native defeated a player from Nova Scotia by scores of 21-15 and 21-19.

Whitehead is also in mixed doubles with the first match in that division this afternoon.




The Rainy River District Fastball League kicks off today.

Barwick is at Rainy River.

Big Island visits Stratton.

The Sabaskong Cubs travels to Couchiching.

Beef Warriors are facing the Sabaskong Lakers.
