Local Sports for Tuesday May 8


Fort Frances Lakers' Byron Katapaytuk is up for Canadian junior A player of the year honours.

The SIJHL Player of the Year and league scoring champ is one of 11 nominees considered for the award to be announced later this week.




Emo's Luke Judson will be continuing his hockey career closer to home.

The 21-year-old has to signed to play for Lakehead University next season.

Judson just completed four years in the OHL where he was captain of the Belleville Bulls.




International Falls Broncos boys baseball team scored 8 runs in the second inning in an 10-0 whitewash of Mountain-Iron Buhl.

The Broncos, who have now won three straight, travel to Eveleth-Gilbert today.




Fort Frances Lakers have elected its board of director for the next season.

Milt Strachan returns as president of the eight member volunteer board.

New faces include vice-president Kelly Jolicoeur and directors, Frank Bruyere  Greg Spicer and Jane Johnstone.

The club is still searching for someone to serve as its treasurer.
