Local Sports for Wednesday May 23


A five-goal performance by Ahamadou Idrissou highlighted the opening of the Borderland Soccer Association's men's division.

Idrissou's led Manitou Forest Products  to a 6-0 win over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs

Mike Sande had the other goal.

Jamieson Shortreed and Mike Faragher shared in the shutout.

In the other game, International Travel Services doubled up Pharmasave 4-2.




The final mini-tournament of the NORWOSSA soccer season goes today in Dryden.

The Fort Frances Muskies boys team needs just a single point or a Dryden loss to clinch first in its division.

The girls team enter play still looking for their first league goal.




Three teams remain unbeaten in the Rainy River District Fastball League.

Ryan Windigo belted a home run in the Beefs Warriors 13-1 win over Northwest Bay.

The Big Grassy Braves improved to 3-and-oh with an 11-0 pasting of Big Island.

Rainy River won its third straight with a 5-2 win over the Sabaskong Cubs.

Elsewhere, Barwick defeated Stratton 9-2.

Sight & Sound got by Couchiching 12-9.

The Sabaskong Lakers beat out Manitou 10-7.




International Falls Broncos boys baseball team defeated Littlefork-Big Falls 11-1 in a game called after five innings.

Wyatt Ulrick gave up just two hits for the win on the mound.




The Broncos girls softball team's playoff game with Virginia was postponed due to rain.

They will try to get the game in today.
