Local Sports for Wednesday May 16


Mixed results for Taylor Whitehead at the national junior badminton championship in Moncton.

The Fort Frances native defeated a player from Nova Scotia in singles play, but loss in mixed doubles with playing partner.

He's back in action today in both divisions as well as boys doubles.




Plenty of run production in the season openers of the Rainy River District Fastball League.

Rainy River outslugged Barwick 13-12.

Big Island defeated Stratton 28-7

Sabaskong Cubs beat Couchiching 23-15

Beef's Warriors beat the Sabaskong Lakers 14-1

Big Grassy Braves were 10-1 winners over Sight and Sound

Northwest Bay beat Manitou by the same 10-1 score.




Another shut out win for the International Falls Broncos boys baseball team.

The Broncos beat Northwoods 8-0, their third straight shutout win.

Wyatt Ulrich pitched the complete game win and when 3 for four at the plate.




A second place finish for the Falls High School girls track team at the Iron Range Conference meet in International Falls yesterday.

Amy Auran in the pole vault, Hailey Fentem in the long jump, Savanah Olson in the discus and the 4 by 100 relay team capture wins.

The boys were six place finishers in their division.




A loss today for Fort Frances teen Taylor Whitehead at the national junior badminton championships in Moncton.

Playing with teammate Kael Boucher of New Brunswick, the duo lost 21-7 and 21-11 in their opening match in boys doubles.

Whtehead has further matches in boys singles and mixed doubles this afternoon.




Fort Frances Muskies soccer team back in NORWOSSA action.

Kenora is hosting the league's second mini-tournament.

The Muskies enter leading the boys division with a 2-and-oh while the girls are still looking for their first regular season goal.
