Local Sports for Tuesday May 22


Stock racing kicked off on the weekend at Emo Speedway.

Gavin Paull continued the success he had in 2011 with this season's first Modified feature win.

Chuck Lambert in the Midwest modified and Tylar Wilson in the Street Stocks were the other feature winners.




The Borderland Kart Racing got its season underway Sunday with Raice Westover taking the Novice Feature.

A.J. Kellar had both heat wins.

Aric Supinski won the advanced feature with Delbert Collettee earned checkers in both heats.




International Falls Broncos girls softball team is in playoff action tonight.

They face Virginia in the Section 7AA championship tournament.




There were a number of running events with local involvement.

Araceli Vazquez of Fort Frances finished 10th in her age category at the 10 Mile Road race in Thunder Bay.

Sarah Berg of Rainy River was 26th among women in the 25 K Superior Trail race in Lutsen, Minnesota.



Fort Frances teen Taylor Whitehead ended his run at the national junior badminton championships Friday with a loss in boys doubles with playing partner Kael Boucher.




The Borderland Soccer League kicks its 2012 season today with teams in men's division beginnings.

Manitou Forest Products plays the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs.

Pharmasave takes on International Travel Services.




Three teams look to continue their perfect records intact in the Rainy River District Fastball League tonight.

The 2-and-oh Beef Warriors is at Northwest Bay.

Rainy River looks for its third straight win hosting the Sabaskong Cubs.

And the Big Grassy Braves goes for their third straight against Big Island.

Elsewhere, it's Stratton at Barwick.

Sight and Sound traveling to Couchiching.

And Manitou visiting the Sabaskong Lakers.




International Falls Broncos girls softball team is in playoff action tonight in Virginia.

The Broncos are ranked 7th in the Section 7-double A championship tournament.

Meantime, the boys baseball team continues its regular season with a home game against Littlefork Big Falls - 4:30 p.m. at Scheela Field
