Local Sports For Friday November 9

Fort Frances Muskies senior girls basketball team is NorWossa AA champion.

The girls won the title by beating Kenora 30-18 to reach the final where they upset top ranked Dryden 33-22.

Muskies will play the winner of the Thunder Bay high school plays for the NWOSSA title next weekend.

In other games, the Muskies junior girls basketball team lost in the final to Kenora 35-31.

The senior boys volleyball team swept by Kenora in 3 sets, but lost to Dryden in the final in 5.

The junior boys were upset by Kenora in 5 games of their semi-final game.



Fort Frances Lakers are back in second spot in the SIJHL after defeating the Thunder Bay North Stars 5-1 at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Merritt Rysavy, Colton Spicer, Jacob Nolan, Brendan Cawston and Patrick Sofer provided the scoring.

Jameson Shortreed picked up the win in net .



A member of the Fort Frances Muskies football team has been recognized by the Winnipeg High School Football League.

Team captain Colton Craig has been named a conference all-star.

The grade 12 running back was one of team's offensive leaders.



Several members of the Falls High School girls swim team have advanced to the finals at the Section 7A championships in Hibbing.

Sarah Todd, Kourtney Clow, Breana Shofner, Blair Johnson, Emma Misner, Carolann Stone, Claire Herzig and Emily Saari will attempt to earn berth to the State finals tomorrow.



The first tournament of the season for the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association goes this weekend.

Pee wee teams from Fort Frances and Emo join with clubs traveling from Kenora, Winnipeg, Dryden and Thunder Bay.

Play at the Memorial Sports Centre started this morning with the finals set to go Sunday.



Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams take to the court tonight in Virginia.

The men have a game against Fond Lu Lac.

The women's team is in tournament play at the Mesabi Range event.
