Local Sports For Monday November 13

Fort Frances Canadians Bantam AA team captured its first tournament of the season.

Canadians went undefeated in six games and beat Kenora in the final 7-4 to take the title in Dryden on the weekend.

Cam Gushalak and Evan Krassey had a pair of goals in the final with singles from Brett Hakala, Noah Loveday and Cole Tymkin.

The Canadians host a tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre this weekend.



Fort Frances Canadians took home the silver medal at a pee-wee AA tournament in Dryden on the weekend.

Canadians lost 4-2 in the final to the Sioux Lookout Flyers.



Five teams with the Fort Frances Girls women's hockey association in tournament play in Thunder Bay on the weekend.

Energy Fitness Wild won the bantam division over M&M Meats 3-2 in a battle of two local clubs.

In the peewee division, Kaemingh Esso went 2 and 2 including a 7-3 win over Schreiber with Maighyn Degagne scoring all seven goals.

The ACO Chargers finished up the midget side with a 4-3 loss to Schreiber while the Pharmasave Wildcats ended the division with a 3-1 loss to Thunder Bay.



Jonathan Losurdo of the Minnesota Iron Rangers has been named player of the week in the SIJHL.

Jordan Larson of the Fort Frances Lakers was an honourable mention.



Fort Frances Muskies hockey seasons in NorWossa begin tonight at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Both the boys and girls teams have home games against the Dryden Eagles.

The boys drop the puck at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arenas with the girls playing in the 52 Canadians Rink at 7:30 p.m.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team opens its season tonight as well with a home game against Roseau.

That game at Bronco Arena begins at 7:30 p.m.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's basketball team earned a pair of wins over the weekend, first beating Fond Du Lac 69-51 Friday then University of Wisconsin-Barron County 95-51.

The men lost 91-78 to Fond Du Lac and 86-70 to Mesabi Range.



Several members of the Borderland Skating Club got passing marks in a weekend of figure skating test days.

A total of 5 clubs participated with a total of 46 tests attempted.

A total of 16 skaters with the club were successful with Kaylyn Levesque, Angeline Redford, Brianna Eldridge, Joleigh Hayes each passing two separate categories.
