Local Sports For Thursday November 8

A pair of championships for Rainy River High School.

The Owls first defeated Thomas Aquanis 26-13 for the junior girls basketball title.

The senior Owls held on for a 34-31 over Kenora to capture the NorWossa "A" crown and advance to the NWOSSA finals.

The Atikokan Voyaguers junior boys volleyball team fell short in its bid for a title, losing out in five hard found matches to Thomas Aquanis.



It's playoff action today for the Fort Frances Muskies in the NorWossa AA championships being played in Kenora.

The Muskies junior and senior boys volleyball teams and senior girls basketball team have semi-final games this morning against Kenora's Beaver Brae.

The Muskies junior girls basketball team are into the final after a first place finish in the regular season.



In the Borderland Women's Indoor Soccer League, Boston Pizza, formerly team Black, defeated Team Red 8-1 to remain unbeaten.

Laureen Peters had five goals for B.P.

Elsewhere, Cater 2 U, formerly Team Pink, beat Wright Physiotherapy, formerly the White Team 5-2.

Mandy Armstrong and McKenna Begin each scored twice for Cater 2 U.

Team Blue tied Team Purple 1-1.



A change in the schedule for the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League.

Games scheduled for Robert Moore School tonight will now be played at St. Michael's School.

Notoriuos D-I-G holds down first spot by just one point ahead of Gillon's Insurance Cougars and Bump it Up.




Fort Frances Lakers host the Thunder Bay North Stars at the Ice For Kids Arena tonight.

A Lakers win vaults them into second place, a point ahead of both the Stars and Dryden.

The Lakers are coming off two straight losses to Dryden while the Stars are coming off a loss to the Ice Dogs on Tuesday.
