Local Sports For Thursday November 15

Two goals from Laureen Peters helped Boston Pizza to a 5-1 win over Cater 2-U in the Borderland Indoor Women's Soccer League.

Peters is the league leader with 15 goals.

In other action, Melanie Hyatt found the net four times as Peter's Plumbing and Heating clobbered Leon's Furniture, formerly team Blue 9-2.

The still sponsor-less Team Purple edged Wright Physiotherapy 3-2.



In the Fort Frances Girls-Women's Hockey Association, Kaemingh Esso edged the BDO Stars 5-4 in a pee-wee division game.

Maighyn DeGagne with a pair, Madison Morrison, Hailee Barnard and Alex Gartxke scored for Esso.

Jenna Clendenning, Carly Rae Beazley, Kelsey Langtry and Bryanna Dustin replied for the Stars.



Rainy River Owls senior girls basketball team has taken the series lead in the NWOSSA championship being played in Marathon today.

Owls scored a 55-29 victory in the first game of the best of three series.

Game two goes this afternoon with a deciding game to be played tomorrow if necessary.

The winner advances to the all-Ontario championship for division A ranked schools.



Notorious D.I.G. continues to lead the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League as play continues tonight.

The leaders have a three point bulge on second place the Gillon's Insurance Cougars.

Four other teams separated by six points are in a battle for third spot.



The first curling bonspiel of the year goes at the Fort Frances Curling Club this weekend.

A men's bonspiel starts tomorrow night.

The club is looking at at least four more team to join.
