Local Sports For Monday November 19

Fort Frances Canadians bantam AA team captured its own tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre, going undefeated, including a wild 10-9 finish in the final over the Seine River Snipers.

Graeme Kitt had four goals in that game with Hunter Koles adding two more.

It's the Canadians second straight tournament win.



Nine members of the Fort Frances Canadians Peewee AA team have been named to the Northwestern Ontario Regional All-star Team.

Forwards IanTookenay, Ethan Carlson-Jordain, Kendyn Faragher, James Gushulak, and Eric Pitkanen; defencemen Cole Alan, Colton Bodnar, and Byron Stewart and netminder Matti Booth will be part of the team that will compete for the Ontario title next April.

Mike Allison will be an assistant coach on the team.



Fort Frances Lakers have slipped to a tie for fourth place in the SIJHL after a 7-1 pounding Saturday at the hands of the Minnesota Wilderness.

Patrick Sofer had the Lakers lone marker.



A pair of wins for the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team, beating Proctor 4-2 Saturday then beating Sioux Lookout 19-0 yesterday.



Confederation College Thunderhawks swept the Rainy River Voyageurs in a pair of games played in International Falls on the weekend.

Hawks won 4-2 yesterday and 4-1 Saturday.



In girls hockey from the weekend, the Fort Frances Leafs bantam team split games against U.S. opponents.

Leafs won 4-2 Saturday against Proctor, but lost 4-3 to Duluth the next day.

Elsewhere, the Annalise Hayes scored four times as Lakewood Tire Eagles blanked BDO Stars.



Fort Frances Muskies seniors girls basketball team was swept in two games by the St. Ignatius Falcons for the NWOSSA title.



A couple of medals for area squash players at an event in Alberta.

Shawn Brady took Gold in the under 15 and 17 Novice Division at the Alberta Junior Jesters Squash Tournament.

Chase Badiuk lost in the quarter-finals of the same division.

Marita Matias claimed silver in the girls under 13 and 15 Novice Division.

Angel McCormack earned a bronze in the girls under 17 class.



Raymond Roy's rink was the winner of the men's bonspiel held on the weekend at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

Roy defeated the Adam Bolen rink in the final.

B-side went to Jim Jackson's foursome over Jon Thompson 8-7.

Don Debenet won the C-side with Sabino Rossi's rink earning D-side honours.

Greg Gustafson's rink beat Reece Jones 5 skins to 3 the "Meat Draw."
