Local Sports for Monday February 8

Isaac Keffer and his Fort Frances rink have qualified for this year's Ontario Winter Games.

Keffer's rink lost in the final to Sudbury's Tanner Horgan at the Northern Ontario bantam curling playdown in Longlac, but still earned the berth to the Games that happen in Gravehurst beginning March 3rd.





A highly successful home meet for the Fort Frances Aquanaunts Swim Team on the weekend.

The Aquanauts placed second overall behind the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts with 98 personal bests recorded.

Krista Emond was the high point getter in the females 15 and over category will Serena Stromberg placed second.

Donovan Taylor won gold in the males 15 and over division.

Levi Rittau placed second and Adam Stromberg third in the boys 11 and 12 age group.

Some heroics for the Fort Frances Lakers in Sioux Lookout Saturday night.

Tyler Stevenson tied the game with 1 second remaining in the third and Ryan Prethus scored 30 seconds into overtime to give the Lakers a 5-4 win over the Flyers.

Justin Erhart, Blake Boaz and Mike Jourdain had the other goals while T.J. Pocock picked up the win in net.





Fort Frances Muskies girls' hockey team defeated Sioux Lookout 9-3 Friday night.

Nicole Beadle and Jillian Langtry each had hatricks with singles coming from Taylor Dixon, Courtney Easton and Jessie Baker.


Muskies lace up again tonight against Lake of the Woods Bear at the Emo arena ...game time at 7:30 p.m.





International Falls Broncos boys' hockey team whalloped Silver Bay 8-1 Saturday.

Christopher Little and Jon McDonald had two goals each.

Jordan Christianson, Matt Youso, Brandon Richards, and Christian Kittleson had the others.





Fort Frances Canadians Midget AA hockey team went 1-1-1 at a tournament in Duluth on the weekend.

Canadians opened with a 6-3 loss to Lakeville, Minnesota on Friday before tying Elk River 1-1 and shutouting Superior, Wisconsin 5-0 on Saturday with Brennan Carroll earning the shutout in that game.





The Emo Predators earned a bronze medal in the bantam division of a tournament in Thunder Bay with a 6-1 win over a team from Dryden in the third-place finals.


Fort Frances Firemen pee-wee boys' hockey team lost to Kenora in the finals at tournament in Kenora.

Fort Frances Pharmasave midget girls' teams won bronze at a local tournament defeating a Thunder Bay team 1-0 while the BDO Dunwoody Stars captured bronze in the bantam division with a 1-0 win over Dryden






Rainy River Community College's basketball teams swept their games on the weekend.

The men defeated Fond Du Lac 100-74 on Friday and Northland on Saturday 97-94 in overtime.

The women were 75-40 winners over Fond Du Lac and 67-60 winers over Northland.
