Local Sports for Tuesday February 9

Tim Nordin's rink has lost its first two games at the Northern Ontario men's curling playdowns in Sudbury.

The Stratton Curling Club rink fell 8-7 in an extra end to Sudbury's Tim Phillips to open the event before losing 8-4 to Geraldton's John Salo last night.

Nordin faces two Thunder Bay rinks today, Mike Pozihum this morning and Joe Scharf in an evening draw.


Jillian Langtry scored both goals to help the Fort Frances Muskies girls' hockey team edge the Lake of the Woods Bear from Baudette 2-1 in a game played last night in Emo.

Dana Cridland got the win in net.

The Muskies boys' hockey team is on the ice tonight against Dryden - 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.


Fort Frances Muskies court teams conclude their home schedule this afternoon with games against the Dryden Eagles.

Games at Fort High begin at 3:30 p.m.


Fort Frances Canadian Midget AA hockey team travels across the border for a game against the International Falls Broncos junior varsity team.

Game time at Bronco Arena is 5:30 p.m.

Meantime, International Falls Broncos varsity team will host Greenway - 7:30 p.m. at Bronco Arena.

The Broncos boys' basketball team hosts Virginia - 7:30 p.m. at Falls High School.

Last night, the Broncos girls basketball team lost to Cherry 56-43.
