Local Sports for Wednesday February 10

Tim Nordin remains winless at the Northern Ontario men's curling playdown in Sudbury after losing his fourth straight game - an 8-5 loss Joe Scharf of Thunder Bay last night.

Today's draws sees the Stratton rink playing Mike Assad of Thunder Bay this morning and Cobalt's Robbie Gordon this afternoon.



For the second straight meeting, the Fort Frances Muskies boys' hockey team has gone down to defeat at the hands of the Dryden Eagles.

Last night the Muskies dropped at 5-2 decision at the Ice for Kids Arena.


Fort Frances Muskies court teams earned a split with the Dryden Eagles yesterday in their final home games of the NORWOSSA regular season.

The Muskies boys basketball earned victories with the senior boys winning 47-18 and the juniors taking a 59-33 decision against the Eagles.

Both the senior and junior girls' volleyball teams were swept in their match-ups with Dryden in three straight sets.


Fort Frances Canadians Midget AA hockey team defeated International Falls Broncos junior varsity team 10-4 in the Falls last night.

Brad McDonald, Jeff Gustafson and Ryan Lundy paced the Canadians with two goals each.

Brandon Patterson, Tyler Fontana, Wes Anderson and Chris Bobczynski had singles.

Brennan Carroll earned the win in net.


International Falls Broncos boys' basketball team won its third straight with a 58-42 decision over Virginia.


Fort Frances Lakers are back in Sioux Lookout tonight following Saturday's overtime win.

Lakers are 4-4-1 against the Flyers this season.


Two members of the Rainy River Voyageurs basketball clubs have been recognized with player of the week honours from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

Shawncinee Lay, a guard on the women's team, was named the Northern Division player of the week after averaging 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists to help Rainy River to 3 wins last week.

Dylan Clarke-Knaeble earned the same honours on the men's side.

The forward from Minneapolis averaged 9.3 points and 17 rebounds for the men who also won three times last week.

Both players and their Voyageur teammates are in action tonight in Vermilion.
