Local Sports for Tuesday February 16

Fort Frances Lakers dropped a pair of games to the Fort William North Stars - 5-0 Friday and 7-2 on Saturday.

Both games played in Thunder Bay.

The Lakers return to the friendly confines of the Ice for Kids Arena tonight as they host the Sioux Lookout Flyers beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Lakers have won three of the last four meeting with the Lakers with the only loss coming in a shootout.


Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey club won all three games during a tournament it hosted on the weekend.

The Voyageurs beat Minnesota-Duluth and North Dakota Universities by identical 2-1 scores then blasted Minot University Sunday 10-2.

Stevie-Lee Langford had four goals in that game.



Despite a weekend lost to the Central Lakes, the Rainy River Community College men's basketball team will enter next week's Minnesota College Athletic Conference State tournament.

The Voyaguers lost 79-78 Saturday.

Antonio White had 20 points.


In weekend action from Falls high School teams, the Broncos girls' basketball team beat Virginia 67-58.


Tim Nordin's Stratton rink lost its final two games at the Northern Ontario men's curling playdown in Sudbury to finish with a 2 and 9 record.


Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie won the playdown and will represent Northern Ontario at the Brier in Halifax next month.


Three local club members earned titles at the Sunset Country Squash Club's tournament on the weekend.

Bob Tkachuk won the B-side title while Ryan Brady was the winner on the D-side.

Mary-Beth Tkachuk took the women's title.


Fort Frances Muskies hockey teams take to the road today for NORWOSSA action.

The boys team head to Kenora to face the Beaver Brae Broncos.

The girls are in Dryden.


International Falls Broncos girls' hockey team face Chisago Lakes Area High School in the semi-final round of the section 7-A championship.

The game is being played in Cloquet.

Elsewhere, the Broncos boys' hockey team hosts Roseau - 7:30 p.m. at Bronco Arena.

The boys' basketball team is at Mountain-Iron Buhl while the girls' team will host Littlefork-Big Falls - 7:30 p.m. at Falls High School.
