Local Sports For Thursday February 28

Fort Frances Lakers  goaltender Talor Joseph stopped 48 of 51 shots, and all three in the shootout as the Lakers defeated the Minnesota Wilderness 4-3.

The win extended the Lakers win streak to 9 games while stopped the Wilderness' 17-game run.

Colton Spicer, Jon Carlson and Jordan Christianson scored in regulation time with Spicer notching the only goal in the shoot out to give the Lakers the win.



Fort Frances has drawn first blood in the Northland Cup girls hockey championship.

The Muskies blanked Beaver Brae 1-0 last night.

Game two in the two-game total goal series goes Sunday afternoon in Kenora.



In the Borderland Women's Indoor Soccer League, Leon's Fort Frances scored a 2-1 win over Cater 2-U

Mary Waghorn and Erin Gustafson scored for Leons while Ayssa Holliday replied for Cater 2-U

Elsewhere, Boston Pizza was force to forfeit its game to Peters' Plumbing and Heating, ending an 8-game win streak.

Wright Physiotherapy defeated Fit Lifestyles & Conditioning 6-3.

Christine Borden and Rebecca Selman each notched a pair of goals for Wright's.

Jessica Wilson had two for FITS in a losing caused.


International Falls Broncos girls basketball team defeated Deer River 74-50 to advance to the second round of the Section 7AA championship.

The Broncos now face Virginia Saturday in Duluth.



Registration for the Fort Frances Vipers under 14 volleyball team goes tonight.

It take place at the Fort Frances High School from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

First 16 girls will be accepted.

Cost is 50-dollars.



Another huge medal haul for skaters with the Borderland Skating Club.

The club participate in an event last weekend in Thunder Bay.

A total of fourteen skater returned home with multi-medals

Sophie Potvin-Begin, Joleigh Hayes and Kaylyn Levesque each came away with a couple of first place finishes.
