Local Sports For Wednesday February 27

A power play goal from Owen Stauber with under three minutes remaining gave the Fort Frances Lakers a 5-4 win over the Dryden Ice Dogs at the Memorial Sports Centre last night.

It's the Lakers fourth straight win over the Dogs.

Colton Spicer had two goals and two assists while Merrit Rysavy also had a four-point night with a goal and three assists.

The Lakers are in Cloquet tonight to face the Minnesota Wilderness.



First game of the Northland Cup boys hockey final has resolved nothing.

Fort Frances Muskies and the Thomas Aquinas Saints of Kenora skated to a 4-4 draw last night in Kenora.

Game two of the two-game total goal series takes place Friday at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Meantime, the Muskies girls team will open its finals with the Beaver Brae Bronco tonight on home ice.

Game two is Sunday in Kenora.



International Falls Broncos boys basketball team defeated Mesabi East 69-41.

The girls team will host Deer River tonight - 7 p.m. at Falls High School - in a first round game of the Section 7AA championship.
