Local Sports For Tuesday March 12

Payton Ruter scored two first period goals in helping the Fort Frances Lakers to a 5-3 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars in Thunder Bay.

The win guarantees the Lakers will face Dryden in the semi-final round of the playoffs .

Colton Spicer, Tyler Brodersen and Miles Nolan adds the team's other markers.

The two teams meet again tomorrow in Thunder Bay to conclude their regular seasons.



Two sled-dog teams from Ray, Minnesota, are still in the running in the John Beargrease Sled Dog race between Grand Marias and Duluth.

Keith Aili, who led after the second stage, dropped to third while Amanda Vogel  increased a placing to fourth.

Rainy River Voyageurs men's baseball team heads to Florida for a series of exhibition games beginning tomorrow.

They opened their pre-season with a pair of victories over Fond Du Lac on the weekend at the Metrodome in Minneapolis 8-2 and 16-nothing.
