Local Sports For Thursday March 14

Fort Frances Lakers wrapped up their regular season in the SIJHL with a 3-2 loss to Thunder Bay in Thunder Bay.

The Lakers now prepare for their semi-final series with Dryden.

The best-of seven series will open a week from today in Fort Frances.



Team Iron Range won Dick Stewart Cup after defeating Team Duluth 3-0 in a mini-game to decide the high school boys hockey All-Star Series in Duluth.

The mini-game was needed after Duluth won the series second game 8-5.

Lucas Debenedet of International Falls had two assists in that game.

The Iron Range squad, was coached by the Broncos Bruce Elson, won the opener Tuesday 6-4.



Nathan Schroeder of Chisholm was the first to finish the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Keith Aili of Ray, Minnesota was second.

Amanda Vogel, also of Ray was fourth in the 400 mile race between Grand Marias and Duluth.



Four members of Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim team are in Regina.

Adam Stromberg, Josh Cousineau, Regan Danylchuk and Lyndsi Jo Wilson are competing in the Manitoba-Saskatchewan Provincial  Swimming Championships that begin today.

Also competing will be former teammate and Indiana University freshman, Donovan Taylor.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's baseball team dropped a pair of games yesterday to Waynesburg University of Pennsylvania to open its Florida exhibition series.

Voyageurs lost 7-6 in the opener then 14-nothing in the second.

They play a double header tonight against Toronto-area Etibocoke Rangers.
