Local Sports For Monday December 2

Some medals for a Fort Frances swimmer in Winnipeg.

Donovan Taylor spent his U.S. Thanksgiving break from the Indiana Hoosiers swim team to participate in the Prairie Winter International Swim Meet where he won the 50 Metre backstroke and finished second in both the 50 Metre Butterfly and 200 Metre Free.

Fort Frances Aquanaut swim team member Josh Cousineau reached the finals of the 100 metre backstroke, finishing 6th, the 200 metre backstroke to finish 5th and the 100 metre back where he played 9th.

Adam Stromberg was 9th in the 50 free and 6th in the 100 metre free.



Members of the Sunset Country Squash Club claimed three wins at a event in Thunder Bay on the weekend.

Annis Seid was victorious in the men's division while Anna Schwartz was tops in the junior division.

Shannon Bird claimed the B-side of the junior event.

Jeff Gustafson was runner-up in the men's C-side while Marita Matias was runner-up in the men's D-side.

Zak Kellar was runner up in the junior's B-side.



A pair of minor hockey teams missed making the finals at a tournament in Thunder Bay.

Fort Frances Canadians lost in the semi-finals of the Atom AA division to Westfort while the Causeway Cougars were stopped in the semi-finals of the Atom A division by Geraldton.



International Falls Broncos boys hockey team opened its season Friday with a 4-3 overtime win over Littlefork-Big Falls

Fort Frances Lakers extend their latest win streak to five games with home ice wins over Wisconsin and Dryden on the weekend.



Jillian Langtry of Fort Frances scored her first goal of the NCAA season Friday as Maine lost 4-2 to Robert Morris.

Ben Gordon of International Falls had a pair of goals on the weekend for Tulsa's two losses of the Central Hockey League.



Members of the Border Skating Club picked up several medals at the Superskate Competition in Winnipeg.

Greta Fedoruk and Brianna Eldridge won 10 and over freeskate events and earned gold in the Elements program.

Jaida Norris and Jenna Bailey placed first in a team event.

Lexi Caul and Alina Eldridge won the junior 11 and up Freeskate while Eldridge and Avery Wilson-Hands were first in the senior bronze.

Olivia Eldridge placed first in a preliminary Spins event.
