Local Sports For Monday December 30

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey teams ended tournament play in Thief River Falls with a 7-6 overtime loss Saturday to Achiever Academy.

Jarred Taylor had a hat trick in the game with other goals coming from Chris Ferguson, Carter Brown and Tyler Mosbeck.

Muskies had earlier lost to Crookston 3-1 and blanked Siren, Wisconsin, 7-0.



International Falls Broncos boys hockey team was left scoreless on the weekend, losing 8-0 to Grafton-Park River on Friday and 6-0 to Warroad on Saturday.



The Muskies and Broncos girls hockey teams are in Minneapolis today competing in the Schwann Cup tournament.

The Muskies face Northern Lights in their first game tonight.

The Broncos open play with a game against Worthington.



A member of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named player of the week for the period ending December 22.

Lyndon Lipinski had four goals and 7 assists in the Lakers three victories that week, including notching his first ever hat trick in junior A hockey.

Off the ice, the Grand Prairie, Alberta native has also helped lead the Lakers' Adopt-a-School program at J.W. Walker School in Fort Frances.



The Broncos girls basketball team defeated Hibbing Saturday 57-49 to claim the Hibbing Holiday tournament.

Teagen Anderson led with 19 points.

The Broncos beat Eveleth-Gilbert and Virginia to reach the final.



The Broncos also won the junior varsity girls side of the tournament, beating Nashwauk-Keewatin 44-9, Chisholm 52-16 and  Hibbing 50-28 along the way.



Falls High School boys swim team finished fourth in its home tournament on Friday.

The team's only podium placing came from Levi Lucy who came second in the 100 yard butterfly.
