Local Sports For Monday December 9

Fort Frances native Donovan Taylor had three first place finishes swimming for Indiana University at a weekend event.

Taylor set event records in the 400 yard and 200 yard individual medleys and the 200 yard butterfly.

He also finished second in the 100 yard butterfly and third in the 500 yard freestyle.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team reached the quarter-finals of the b-side at a tournament in Brandon, Manitoba before being knocked out by Kelvin 3-2.



Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team finished 3rd at a tournament in Portage La Prairie, beating Kenora Thomas Aquinas 7-0 in that final game.

Katie Sinclair and Shelby Tymkin each had a pair of goals in the game.



In International Falls, the Broncos boys hockey team dropped a pair of games on the weekend, losing 4-1 to Hibbing Friday and 2-1 to Proctor Saturday.

The girls team was shut out by Proctor Saturday 4-0.



Fort Frances Canadians midget AA team beat Duluth 6-2 to finish fifth overall at the Spirit of Duluth tournament.



Fort Frances K-9s defeated Lake of the Woods Bears 2-1 Sunday to win the Emo Bantam A tournament.

Christian Audette and Brent Jourdain scored for K-9s who went 6 and 1 in the tournament.



Fort Frances Leafs were defeated 3-0 by Thunder Bay in the bantam girls final of a tournament in Thunder Bay.

The Nor-Fab Flames reached the semi-finals in the pee-wee division before losing to Thunder Bay 10-0.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team shut out the University of Minnesota-Duluth twice by identical 2-nothing scores on the weekend.

Rebecca Dilly scored twice in Saturday's contest while Victoria Taylor picked up the shut out in net.

Taylor Dixon notched both goals yesterday with Shea Perry earning the shut out.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team dropped a pair of games on the weekend, losing to Fergus Falls Friday 97-94 and to St. Cloud Saturday 91-86.



International Falls Broncos girls basketball team kicked off its season Friday with a convincing 88-45 win over Eveleth-Gilbert.
