Local Sports For Friday January 3

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team split games to open play at the Piper Classic tournament in Winnipeg.

The Muskies opened with a 4-3 shoot out win over College Jeanne Sauve.

Graham Kitt with a pair and Aaron McDowell scored in regulation with Derek Kaemingh notching the deciding marker in the shoot out.

In the evening game, the Muskies fell 3-2 to St. John's-Ravenscourt.

Tyler Mosbeck and Braden Webb with goals in that game.

The Muskies face Garden City this morning.



Fort Frances native Isaac Keffer is one and one after the first day of play at the Northern Ontario junior boys curling championship in Longlac.

Skipping a team from Thunder Bay, Keffer opened with an 8-5 loss to Sam Cull of Sudbury, but rebounded for an 8-5 win over Cody Tetreault of Thessalon.

Keffer's rink is up against Matt Smith of Thunder Bay this morning.
