Local Sports For Thursday January 9

Kyle Lipinski's power play goal midway through the third proved to be the deciding factor as Fort Frances Lakers edged the visiting Minnesota Iron Rangers 2-1.

Mason Meyer had the other Laker goal.

Lucas Debenedet assisted on both markers to increase his SIJHL-leading point total to 72 on the season.



Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team improved its NorWossa record to 8-and-oh with a 4-0 win over Kenora's Thomas Aquinas Saints.

Amber Jourdain, Katie Sinclair, Amy Penner and Shelby Tymkin with the goals.



The Muskies boys basketball and girls volleyball teams return to action for the first time in 2014.

They host Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos with games at Fort High beginning at 12 noon.



A couple of games for the International Falls Broncos today.

The girls hockey team faces Eveleth-Gilbert in a make-up game from one cancelled Tuesday.

The girls basketball team hosts Grand Rapids - 7:15 p.m. at Falls High.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team lost 79-63 to Hibbing.

Deion Miley with 16 points for the Voyageurs.

The Voyageurs women's basketball team lost to Hibbing 64-54.

Roneisha Jordan with 15 points for the Voyageurs.



Play in the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball league resumes its second half of the schedule tonight.

Alliance leads the standings with 51 points.

Gillons Cougars is 4 points back in second.

By the Balls, Scared Hitless and Kiss My Pass round out the top five.
