Local Sports For Monday January 20

JAN. 20 - SQUASH

Several local winners at the Sunset Country Squash club's tournament on the weekend.

Anniss Seid was runner up on the A-side.

Taylor Whitehead was the D-side winner.

Jason Kabel in the A-side, Bob Tkachuk in the B-side and Jeff Wright on the C-side were consolation winners.


On the women's side Mary Beth Tkachuk claimed the B-side and Leah Wood beat Selina Haltom for the D-side crown.

In the junior division, Bryan Stewart was runner up on the A-side while Anna Schwartz claimed the A-side crown on the consolation side.




Brian Davenport of Minneapolis captured the Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard 10 K Run Saturday, finishing in a time of 35-minutes 47-seconds.

Allison Hanig of Duluth was the top female finisher.

She was also the top female in the 5K run.

Nathan Wishart, also of Duluth was the top finisher in that event.

The events attracted about 300 people, including one from Brazil.



Fort Frances Canadians AA midget hockey team lost 6-2 to Stillwater in the C-side semi-finals of a tournament in Wayzata, Minnesota.

The team went winless in the tournament.



The Emo Cowboys won the midget B title of the Robin's Minor Hockey Classic in Thunder Bay, beating the South End Stars 3-2 in the final game



International Falls Broncos boys hockey team lost 5-2 to Detroit Lakes on Friday.

The girls hockey team blanked Silver Bay 6-0 Friday.

On the court, the Bronco boys basketball team beat Proctor Friday 68-48, then got by Two Harbors on Saturday 62-53.

The girls team won 65-51 over Two Harbors Saturday.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team split games with North Dakota State, losing 5-3 Saturday, then winning 6-5 yesterday.

Taylor Durocher notched a hat trick for Rainy River in Sunday's win.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team beat Itasca Saturday 83-72, but the women lost 45-41.
