Local Sports For Thursday January 2

A pair of third place finishes for area high school hockey teams at the Schwan Cup in Minneapolis.

Amy Penner's goal midway through the third proved the winner as the Fort Frances Muskies captured third in the Red division with a 3-2 win over Northfield.

Sarah Milling and Shilo Beck had the other goals.

International Falls Broncos edged past the St. Paul Blades 2-1 for third in the White division.

Tessa Walls and Katie West scored for the Broncos.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team opens tournament play in Winnipeg today at the Piper Classic.

They face the College Jeanne Sauve Olympiens in their opener this morning.



Fort Frances native Isaac Keffer skips a Thunder Bay rink at the Northern Ontario junior boys curling championship that begins today in Longlac.

Keffer was part of a city team that finished second at last year's event.

No rinks from the Rainy River district are competing in the boys or girls championships.

The girls championship is taking place in Thunder Bay.



A couple of sporting events for Falls High School teams have been postponed because of weather.

Both a swim meet involving the Falls High School boys swim team and a hockey game between the Broncos and Greenway have been cancelled.

The hockey game will be played tomorrow.
