Local Sports For Monday January 27

Fort Frances Muskies curling teams are perfect through the first day of a NorWossa qualifying event at the Fort Frances curling club.

Yesterday, the boys team skipped by Reece Jones, beat Kenora 7-6, Rainy River 6-4 and Atikokan 6-0 to sit 3 and oh.

The girls team, skipped by Hailey Beaudry, is 2 and oh after beating Sioux Lookout 8-7 and Kenora 17-0.

The mixed team, skipped by Matt Grant, beat Atikokan 7-5 and Rainy River 8-7.

Play resumes this morning at 9 a.m. for the mixed and boys teams.



Fort Frances Canadians midget AA team finished first at a tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team dropped all three games played on the weekend against the Thunder Bay Kings Minor midget team.

Muskies lost 5-1 Friday, 5-1 Saturday and 5-4 yesterday.

They are back in NorWossa action tomorrow against Dryden.



Amy Auron scored the only goal as the International Falls Broncos girls hockey team beat Moose Lake 1-0 in overtime Saturday.



Ben Humbert scored 18 points to become the school's all-time boys scoring leader, but the Broncos lost 89-62 Saturday to Crosby-Ironton.

Humbert has 1416 points, surpassing Gunnar Anderson.




A winless weekend for the Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams.

The men's team lost 105-63 Friday to Central Lakes and 93-65 to Fond du Lac on Saturday.

The women lost 64-62 to Fond Du Lac.



Atikokan Voyageurs finished fourth overall at a junior boys basketball tournament held in Kenora.

The Voyageurs lost to St. John's Ravenscourt from Winnipeg 29-6 in the battle for the bronze.

The mixed team skipped by Matt Grant beat Whitefish Bay 15-3 to go to 3 and oh.

The girls' team skipped by Hailey Beaudry is on the ice at this hour playing Atikokan.

The boys team goes against Kenora's Thomas Aquanias.

Joe Basaraba of Fort Frances had the tying goal in Minnesota-Duluth's 4-4 tie with Minnesota in Saturday's game of the North Star College Cup.

It was his sixth this season.

Ryan Faragher earn a win and a loss for St. Cloud at the North Star College Cup.

Jordan Christianson of International Falls got his 7th of the year Friday in Concordia's 5-5 tie with Augsburgh.

Drew Fisher scored his 7th of the season in Tulsa's 5-2 loss to Missouri Saturday

Former Laker Cody Hasbargen scored his second in Northland College's 5-3 loss Friday to Marian University.
