Local Sports for Friday October 15

There will be new face in the Fort Frances Lakers line-up.

The Lakers have acquired forward Brad Bienvenue from Sioux Lookout in exchange for the rights to Jake Wentz.

Coach Wayne Strachan says the three-year junior vet will add some leadership and size to the line-up.

He's expected to join the Lakers for their game tonight with the Fort William North Stars in Thunder Bay.



Fort Frances High School's Kevin Jackson shot a round of 77 to finish tied for 51st at the provincial high school golf championship in Barrie.

Teammates Alex McDonald finished 70th while Ryan Mosbeck was 109th and James Brown 118th.

The team finished 17th overall in its first ever provincial appearance.



International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team fell in four sets to Virginia.

Julia Santee led with 11 kills and 18 digs.

Sydney Gordon had 9 kills and 21 digs.

Reva Renollet had 17 digs and 23 set assists.



A couple of top ten finishes helped the Falls High School junior high boys cross country team to a second place finish at a meet in International Falls yesterday.

Ian Ducharme was eighth while Eric Mathews placed ninth.

John Sobcynski was sixth as the varsity boys team finished fourth in its division.

The varsity girls were sixth overall.
