Loacl Sports for Wednesday May 4




Steve Arpin will make his race debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series next month in Texas.

The Fort Frances native announced a five-race deal with Turner Motorsports last night on Speed-TV.

Mike's Hard Lemonade will be Arpin's sponsor in the series.




Taylor Whitehead of Fort Frances has been relegated to the consolation side after dropping his first singles match at the junior badminton championships in Richmond, B.C.
Whitehead lost to Jefferey So of B.C. 21-7 and 21-14.

Today, the 12-year-old teams up with Andre Inthavong of Saskatchewan for a boys doubles match this morning and with Dawn Song of Alberta in mixed doubles this afternoon.




Little League baseball action kicked off its 2011 season in International Falls.

In Major A play, Meyers Sport beat Wherley's 7-6 while the Fort Frances Kiwanis beat Elks Lodge 13-11 in major B.

In girls softball, Dairy Queen defeated Tru-Star 10-4 in major A while Cine 5 doubled up Mannco Trucking 12-6 in major B action.




The high school soccer season begins today.

Fort Frances Muskies host the season's opening tournament.



Falls High School girls track team finished third at the Old River Meet in Grand Rapids.

The team picked up wins from Savanah Olson in the shot put and discus, Alicia Hendrickson in the pole vault and by its 4 by 100 relay team.

The boys team finished fourth overall with Shawn Filipiak in the high jump and Jake Jenson pole vault earning wins.





International Falls Broncos girls softball team lost to Cherry-Cotton 13-3.
