Local Sports for Friday May 6

Taylor Whitehead of Fort Frances has been eliminated from singles play at the junior badminton championships in Richmond, B.C.

The 12-year-old beat opponents from B.C. and Quebec to reach the consolation quarter-finals where he was defeated by Nathan Wong of Alberta 21-10, 18-21, 21-19.

He also teamed up with Dawn Wong of Alberta in a mixed doubles consolation game, but lost in straight sets to an Alberta team.



In International Falls Little League play from yesterday, Dairy Queen doubled up Border State Bank 8-4 in a girls Major a division game.



The Ontario Hockey Federation is ban bodychecking in a bid to create a safer environment for new players.

The change affects house league and select players aged six to 21 in most of the province, except Ottawa and Hockey Northwest which aren't governed by the OHF.
