Local Sports for Friday August 17

Sight and Sound Wolves have earned their first victory at the North America Fastpitch "A" World Series in Topeka Kansas.

Kevin Gemmel hit a homerun while pitcher Murray Armstrong struck out four as Sight and Sound defeated Marquette 8-1.

The Wolves faces Santa Rosa of California this morning.



Fort Frances Lakers have signed another stand-out from their recent prospect camp.

Forward Kevin Kurm led the Fort William Hurricanes midget double-A team in scoring last year. 



It's a two nights of racing at Emo Speedway this weekend beginning tonight.

Gavin Paull, one of the favourites in the modified division, expecting some good competition.

Racing starts at 6 p.m. both tonight and tomorrow.




Strong winds forced the cancellation of the first day of a walleye fishing tournament in Baudette yesterday.

The city's playing host to the Anglers Inside Marketing Pro Walleye Series Event.

Anglers are hoping to hit Lake of the Woods today.

Meantime, first day of fishing for the one-hundred plus anglers teams at the Atikokan Bass Classic begins this morning.
