Local Sports for Wednesday July 25


A Fort Frances man is among the latest class to be inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.

Bill Selman heads to the Hall in the Builder's class for his accomplishments as a former head coach of men's college, university and professional ice hockey teams.

Selman, along with NHLer Mike Busniuk, waterskier Terri Gibbons, Nipigon's Alex Dampier, curling instructor Dick Henderson and rowers Barb Kukko and Helen Fleming (Livingstone), will be officially inducted September 24.




First round of the Rainy River District Fastball League playoffs saw Couchiching edge Northwest Bay 12-11.

Stratton defeated the Sabaskong Lakers 22-9.

Sabaskong Cubs doubled up Sight and Sound 6-3.

Manitou upset Big Island 7-5.

Winners advanced to play Thursday the top four seeds tomorrow.

Losers await the losers of those games.




In the Borderland Soccer League, International Travel Services scored a 3-nil win over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs.

Chris Legg, Gavin Moorhouse and Maxwell Williams with the goals.

Ahamadou Idrissou scored twice in Manitou Forest Products 4-1 win over Pharmasave.




Play this week in the Borderland Soccer concludes tonight with the women on the Struchan Gilson pitches.

Boston Pizza plays Al's Racquet Stringing while Taggs Sources Sports tangles with the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs.

Meantime, the league has release a schedule of make-up games to be played next week.

Men's teams end their regular season last night with Manitou Forest Products finishing first overall and Ahamadu Idrissou topping all men with 38 goals.
