Local Sports For Monday August 20


Steve Arpin's return to the ARCA series was brief.

The Fort Frances native completed just 20 of 100 laps yesterday to finish 30th out of 33 cars in the race at Springfield, Illinois.

Arpin cited motor issues for his early exit.




Area drivers took two of three titles at the Borderland Racing Association's Rea Memorial Championship held at Emo Speedway.

A feature win Saturday helped Jamie Davis to the title win in the Modified division.

A fifth place finish Saturday was enough to earn Brady Caul the championship in the midwest modified class.

Darryl Desserre of Dryden won the Street Stock title.




Go-karting at Emo Saturday saw Tanner Williamson win the feature in the advanced class.

Jake Rea won both heats.

In the novice division, A.J. Kellar won the feature and a heat.

Justin Besch won the other heat.




The latest round of racing of the Superior Dirt Riders series was in Kakabeka Falls on the weekend.

Fort Frances strongman Luke Skaarup finished sixth at Canada's Strongest Man competition in Quebec City.

His best showing came in the Yoke lift where the was third.




Sight and Sound went 4 and 2 at the North American Fastpitch Association's "A" world series in Topeka, Kansas.

After losing to Santa Rosa, California Friday, the Wolves beat Herzog Softball team 13-4, Saginaw, Michigan 7-4, and Colton 6-2 before being eliminated by the eventual champions Santa Rosa 9-2.






Thunder Bay anglers Trevor Zimak and Glenn Leroux won the Atikokan Bass Classic.

They captured the crown with a two-day weight of close to 40 pounds.




Sam Anderson's two-day catch of over 98 pounds won him the Angler Insight Marketing Pro Walleye event in Baudette.
